Constructed in 1922, Durham Hosiery #15 produced “combed mercerized yarn” used in hosiery production at Durham Hosiery #8 in downtown Mebane. Through adaptive reuse as 69 garden style and 6 townhouse apartments, for the first time in 50 years its huge 16’ x 20’ windows were un-bricked and replaced, allowing the sun to once again bathe the interior from its original hardwood floors to its classic industrial-high ceilings. Glass encased original machinery and original art work adds to the museum feel of this newly residential environment.
